Stanford Summer Symphony INFORMATION DRAFT
The 2022 Stanford Summer Symphony will take place throughout the month of July, with rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning on June 28 and a concert on Friday, July 29, in Bing Concert Hall. There will also be one more week of readings and rehearsal after that, with a special event taking place on August 6 and 7. Auditions for membership in the Stanford Summer Symphony (MUSIC 160S/160SZ) took place during the week of June 13-17; additional auditions will take place on June 27 in person or over Zoom. Anyone interested in auditioning for the Stanford Summer Symphony is requested to fill out the Orchestra Participation Form and sign up for a time on the Audition Sign-Up Sheet. All new members, including students attending the Stanford Summer Session, will be required to audition; students who auditioned earlier this year for the Stanford Symphony Orchestra or Stanford Philharmonia will not have to re-audition. Participation in the Stanford Summer Symphony is determined by audition and not guaranteed through registration for MUSIC 160S or MUSIC 160SZ.
Typically, the SSS roster comprises about 70 members, with approximately 40 string players (10-10-8-8-4) and 30 winds, harp, and percussion (3-3-3-3 4-4-3-1 alto saxophone, timp, 3perc, 1harp). R. Roger-Ducasse) with saxophone soloist David Henderson • RALPH VAUGHAN WILLIAMS Symphony No. 5 in D Major.

The 2022 Stanford Summer Symphony (MUSIC 160S/160SZ) season will take place throughout the month of July, with rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning June 28, and will conclude with a concert on Friday, July 29 in Bing Concert Hall. The SSS will continue to rehearse during the week following the concert, and will conclude the Summer Session with special musical events on August 6 and 7.
The 2022 Stanford Summer Symphony comprises 85 members, with 45 string players (11-11-9-10-4) and 40 winds, percussion, and harps (3-3-4-2 5-3-3-1 alto saxophone, timpani, 2 percussion, and 2 harps).
